Wishing You A Very Safe and Merry Christmas

After delivering Christmas gifts to four more Oakland needy families today, Officers had some assistance from whom we are referring to as "Santa Mickey Police Claus". Delivering a huge basket of food complete with turkey, stockings, wreath, presents and a holiday greeting card, John Calhoun, Steve Valente, Sgt. Wes Osselyn, Chief Driscoll and Augie Valente, (Steve's Father) were happy to spread the holiday spirit around town. Santa Mickey Police Claus wanted to make sure we all had a happy and safe holiday season before he drove off in his marked Traffic Enforcement Unit. I'm sure he has plenty of work to do before Christmas Eve. A special thank you to all the sponsors of this event, and wishing all a wonderful holiday season.

Special Gifts from Oakland PD for the Holiday

Pathways is a community mental health center that delivers phenomenally cost effective services to the seriously and persistently mentally ill by using their peers to deliver those services with the special insight that the brutal experience of mental illness gives those who survive it. Pathways is a role model for the possibility of recovery. Pathways has zero tolerance for illegal drugs, alcohol, and aggression. Their purpose is to solve problems as it is not about blame or guilt, but rather responsibility. Services range from food to clothing and recreation, however for mental health consumers in need of help, the limit of services is time and resources. All services are free except for rental housing. The only criteria for service is having experienced mental illness. Pathways believes they have created one of the safest places in Central Florida in a low income neighborhood that is sometimes troubled at night. They are located in this area because, this is where the mentally ill often live in Florida due to their frequent poverty. Always in need of supplies, Ofc. Steven Valente, this past weekend delivered supplies for the holidays to Pathways. A recent CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) graduate, Ofc. Valente expanded his holiday baskets of gifts, which he annually offers to needy families in Oakland, to those at Pathways. This years baskets included can and food products for Thanksgiving as well as a turkey and Christmas tree with all the decorations. Seen in the photo is Ofc. Valente handing a gift basket to Pathways Director, Nelson Kull along with members of Pathways and on the right, Orange Co. Corrections Lt. Deanne Adams, who also assisted with the event and is a CIT Coordinator. Ofc. Valente will continue spreading his holiday cheer this week as he plans to provide another five Oakland families with Thanksgiving baskets and holiday fixings. Much of the produce is provided through several donations including a large donation from Publix supermarkets. Thank you to all who assist others. The Oakland Police Department wishes everyone a save and happy holiday season.
