Thomas Button, 55, has 37 years experience in policing. He retired as a Captain from the New York State Police after serving there for 23 years. He then became Chief of Police in Massachusetts, where he served two different towns totaling 13 1/2years. Button holds a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Western New England College and also has two Bachelor's degrees, He has attended and graduated from the FBI National Academy, the Massachusetts Police Leadership Institute, the New England Institute of Law Enforcement Management and several International Association of Chiefs of Police schools and trainings. He has three children Matthew, Patrick and Morgan. Button was hired in July 2007 by the Oakland Police Department, following an extensive Nationwide search.
