A Safety Net for Those Who Need It Most

With an increasingly elderly population and with members of that population living much longer, serious injuries and deaths resulting from falls or other incapacitating conditions have been on the increase. Many of these incidents could have been prevented if the victim could have contacted someone by phone or some other means. The “I’ve fallen and can’t get up” scenario is a real one, which is worthy of serious scrutiny by public safety officials.

In an effort to prevent these tragic incidents from occurring here in Oakland the Oakland Police Department has developed a well-being check program entitled Oakland Partners. It calls for daily contact between the resident and Police Department. If contact isn’t made by phone, an officer responds to the home of the Oakland Partner to check on their well-being.

The Oakland Partners program provides a measure of safety and security to those who need it most. We are hopeful that residents in Oakland will take advantage of this value added offering from the Oakland Police Department.

Forms & Applications

Those Oakland residents, who are elderly, live alone or otherwise wish to have this safety net in place may stop by the Oakland Police Department to pick up the registration forms:

The completed forms along with a house key must then be submitted to the department. From then on the Oakland Partner need only call the designated phone line each day between 8:30 a.m. and noon to check in.
